WHO/M. Kano

WKC engages in activities to provide technical support to Member States in various aspects of health emergency management. Activities focus on how cities/urban areas could cope with disasters/emergencies through preparedness, policy development, capacity building, innovations in response and best practice in health emergency management.

WKC’s work has been guided by relevant World Health Assembly resolutions, its Advisory Committee as well as the “Hyogo Framework for Action 2005-2015: building the resilience of nations and communities to disasters” which has five priorities for action, namely:

  • governance;
  • risk identification;
  • knowledge management and education;
  • risk reduction; and
  • preparedness for effective response and recovery.
