 DR A.J.M. SULAIMAN
CHAIRMAN OF WHO EXECUTIVE BOARD

Dr A.J.M. Sulaiman, Director-General of Health Affairs in the Ministry of Health of Oman, was elected as Chairman of the World Health Organization (WHO) Executive Board at its 104th session on May 26 1999. Dr Sulaiman is to serve as Chairman of the Board for one year. He succeeds Dr Kenneth Calman, Vice-Chancellor and Warden, University of Durham, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The Executive Board is composed of 32 persons who are technically qualified in the field of health, each designated by a Member State that has been elected to so by the World Health Assembly. Member States are elected for three-year terms.

The Executive Board announced that its 105th session will take place from 24 to 29 January 2000. The 53rd World Health Assembly will be held in Geneva, 15 – 20 May 2000.

Following the election of ten new Member States to designate members of the Executive Board during the World Health Assembly last week, here is the Board's composition:
