The MenAfriVac story

This short video explains what inspired scientists to take up the challenge of developing a meningococcal A conjugate vaccine with the potential of eliminating meningococcal A epidemics in sub-Saharan Africa. It describes the initial search for a manfucturer willing to produce a vaccine at a price affordable for Africa and the interntational partnership that led to the vaccine's development within a decade. The WHO Director-General, Dr Margaret Chan; the President and CEO of PATH, Dr Chris Elias; the Director of the Meningitis Vaccine Project, Dr Marc LaForce; and the Minister of Health of Burkina Faso, Seydou Bouda; each talk about the expected public health impact of the vaccine, and the unique elements of the partnership that made its development possible.
