Scaling-up the capacity of Nursing and Midwifery Services to contribute to the Millennium Development Goals
The 2008-2009 Global Programme of Work - Summary of implementation - March 2010
In order to maintain continuity of activities based on a well defined plan, the Global Programme of Work (GPW) which sets out a comprehensive agenda for action on strengthening nursing and midwifery capacity to contribute to the achievement of MDGs has been developed. The GPW on scaling up capacity of nursing and midwifery is built on the WHO resolutions, the Islamabad and Kampala declarations, the 2006 World Health Report, the WHO programme of work, the HRH work plan and the agenda for Global Action. It is meant to be a bridge between the Strategic Directions for Strengthening Nursing and Midwifery Services 2002–2008 and the updated version Strategic Directions for Strengthening Nursing and Midwifery Services 2011–2015.
