PRESS RELEASES AND FACT SHEETS - Health Promotion in the 21st century: an era of partnerships to achieve health for all: 22 June 1998, WHO/47. "Partnerships are the key to successfully promoting health and thus improving people's lives," said Dr Ilona Kickbusch, Director of the former WHO Division of Health Promotion, Education and Communication.
- WHO's Global School Health Initiative: Helping Schools to Become "Health-Promoting Schools": Reviewed June 1998, WHO/FS92. Health is directly linked to educational achievement, quality of life and economic productivity. Research in both developing and developed countries demonstrates that school health programmes can simultaneously reduce common health problems, increase the efficiency of the education system and advance public health, education and social and economic development in all nations.
- Health Promotion: milestones on the road to a global alliance: Reviewed June 1998, WHO/FS171. A formal commitment to health promotion at an international level was made at the First International Conference on Health Promotion held in Ottawa, Canada in 1986. This conference resulted in the Ottawa Charter. This milestone document enshrines the idea of health creation as the cornerstone of the health promotion approach: "Health is created where people live, love, work and play".
- New Health Promotion Initiatives: 5 September 1997, WHO/63. Following the Fourth International Conference on Health Promotion, WHO announced a package of new health promotion initiatives.
