WHO Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health

Draft strategy for consideration by World Health Assembly in May 2004

oranges_buffet.jpg (4255 bytes)The World Health Organization draft Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health was despatched to Member States and made public on the WHO web site on 19 April 2004. The World Health Assembly document A57/9 includes a Report by Secretariat, a draft resolution and an annexed global strategy and it is available in the six WHO official languages.

Move for health 2004

move_for_health.bmp (17178 bytes)The organization by WHO Member States of an "Annual Move for Health Day" was recommended by Resolution WHA55/23 on Diet, Physical Activity and Health of the 55th World Health Assembly (May 2002), following the successful World Health Day 2002 on Move For Health. The event generated great enthusiasm and wide support to the concept. The Resolution "Urges Member States to celebrate a 'Move for Health' day each year to promote physical activity as an essential for health and well being". WHO proposes that Member States celebrate the day on 10 May. However the necessary flexibility is left to Member States to choose the time and duration  that best suits them for the event.
In 2004, it is proposed to focus on promotion of physical activity among young people in and out of school: "Move for Health – Active Youth".
