Guidelines and technical documents on antiretroviral therapy
WHO develops normative guidance for country adaptation and implementation by regularly reviewing the latest scientific data, policy and programme information.
2013 Consolidated guidelines to prevent and treat HIV
WHO published the first global antiretroviral treatment (ART) guidelines for adults and adolescents in 2002, and subsequently revised them in 2003, 2006 and 2010.
In 2013, WHO is planning to release an integrated and consolidated guidelines on use of ARVs in adults, children and pregnant women for both prevention and treatment. A series of technical consultations on the fuller and more strategic use of antiretroviral drugs has been conducted since mid-2012 and will be instrumental in defining the scope of the policy guidance the countries need in using the scientific findings in real-life. WHO has also released information on the revision process, including timelines, areas for review, relevant outcomes, and ideal recommendations.
