The first WHO report on HIV drug resistance

Feature story
18 July 2012

The World Health Organization publishes the first report on HIV drug resistance levels in low- and middle-income countries, based on surveys conducted between 2003 and 2010.

The report shows that while the current rate of 6.8% shows an increase from an earlier level, it is lower than the rates observed in high-income countries. The report recommends a series of actions for countries to stay vigilant and control the rates of HIV drug resistance.
