2013 meeting

Date: 7 – 8 May 2013
Place: Geneva, Switzerland

Purpose of the meeting

The purpose of the annual AMDS partners meeting is to share lessons learned in ensuring uninterrupted supply of medicines and diagnostics and to prioritize our joint actions to ensure continuity and efficiently prevent stock outs and overstock of medicines and laboratory commodities.

Main objectives of the meeting

  • To take stock of progress and achievements made on current major projects.
  • To prioritize the PSM initiatives which support efficiency and sustainability of medicines and diagnostic supply systems.

Background

The purpose of the annual AMDS partners meeting is to share lessons learned in ensuring uninterrupted supply of medicines and diagnostics and to prioritize our joint actions to ensure continuity and efficiently prevent stock outs and overstock of medicines and laboratory commodities.

Since the last AMDS partners & stakeholders meeting held in June 2012, several events have occurred and several activities have been implemented by AMDS partners to improve the supply of medicines and diagnostics. At the same time, more challenges are facing partners and countries to sustain their treatment programmes due to financial constraints. We therefore propose to organize the Annual AMDS Partners & Stakeholders Meeting on Tuesday 7 May and Wednesday 8 May 2013. The annual AMDS partners and stakeholders meeting will be organized back-to-back with the face to face meeting of the Coordinated Procurement Planning (CPP) Initiative which will be held for CPP Members on Monday 6 May 2013 by the CPP Secretariat in Geneva.

Strengthening procurement and supply management (PSM) of AIDS medicines and diagnostics (AMD) in developing countries requires effective partnership at global, regional and country levels. The AMD Network secretariat convenes on annual basis AMDS stakeholders and partners annual meeting to foster collaboration, information sharing and mutual support. The AMD Network, composed of over 20 partners and stakeholders, has been established for this purpose.
