Procurement
One of the challenges for countries to scale up treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS is to practice good procurement of HIV drugs/diagnostics and related commodities and avoid interruption of their supply to the country. Technical knowledge and skills on procurement of drugs and diagnostics along with an access to the updated key information such as prices and availability of HIV drugs and diagnostics for the country are essential for good procurement.
Currently six organizations (CHMP, IDA, Missionpharma, UNFPA, UNICEF and WHO/CPS) providing procurement services are partnering with AMDS to offer low-cost procurement solutions for ARV drugs and other HIV commodities (test kits, condoms and other) to governments and non-profit organizations.
The procurement services of UNICEF and the International Dispensary Association-IDA have their product catalogues available online. The catalogues of WHO's Contracting and Procurement Services WHO/CPS, a service provided for WHO Member States since 1950, can be accessed through WHO intranet, for staff of WHO headquarters, regional and country offices.
WHO/AMDS, the GFATM and their partners are conducting a series of workshops to provide countries with technical knowledge and skills in various areas of the procurement and supply management (PSM) cycle, and to give them opportunities for exchange of experiences in PSM implementation bottlenecks and trouble shooting (2007 training by AMDS partners).
