ARV buffer stock
Uninterrupted access to ARVs is an essential factor for any PSM system to prevent ARV drug resistance and to improve the treatment outcome of the patients. ARV stock outs are frequent PSM issues found in developing countries.
Emergency buffer stocks have been established by various AMDS partners particularly UNICEF, IDA, and SCMS to provide urgent response to imminent ARV stock outs. Countries are encouraged to use them to prevent interruption of ARV supply and to ensure continuous ARV treatment of people living with HIV.
