HIA of regeneration programmes
Housing, Social welfare
Applying HIA to urban regeneration programmes in London is covered by five reports, the first of which is available on-line. While the other contributions cover practical elements such as case studies and tookits, this article reads as an introduction to HIA and to its use in regeneration settings.
Among chapters covered are the definition and purpose of HIA, the social model of health and well-being, the determinants of health, the multidisciplinary and participatory approach, the use of qualitative as well as quantitative evidence, practical issues and methodologies, and the importance of equity and social justice.
