Healthy Environments for Children Alliance

HECA Inter-regional consultation

The Healthy Environments for Children Alliance Secretariat and the WHO Regional Office for Africa organized an inter-regional consultation on "Improving Children's Environmental Health in Settings - Experiences and lessons for policies and action" in Entebbe, Uganda from 29 November to 2 December 2005.

The purpose of the meeting was to identify and capitalize on the strengths of settings-based action to address environmental risks to children's health and to emphasize the importance of monitoring and the use of indicators for the evaluation of the effectiveness of interventions.

Participants in the consultation represented Healthy Environments for Children's projects and other initiatives, such as the Global Initiative on Children's Environmental Health Indicators (CEHI) and the International Network to Promote Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage to address children's environmental health issues, from five regions of WHO.

The outcome will be used to move forward with HECA and other similar projects and programmes aimed at improving children's environmental health and using this to replicate and/or scale up.
