Child mortality
Child mortality (Under-5 mortality rate – probability of dying by age of 5 years, and infant mortality rate – probability of dying by age of 1 year) is a leading indicator of the level of child health and overall development in countries. It is also the MDG indicator number 4. WHO is part of the United Nations Inter-agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation (UN IGME) which includes also members from UNICEF, the World Bank and United Nations Population Division. UN IGME was established in 2004 to advance the work on monitoring progress towards the achievement of MDG4.
