Dr. Danielle Grondin

Director of Migration Health International Organization for Migration

Dr Danielle Grondin is the Director of the Migration Health Department, International Organization for Migration (IOM), since 2001. In that capacity, she is responsible for the conception, planning and development of IOM’s global migration health policy and strategy, and for promoting migration health.

IOM is an intergovernmental organization committed to the principle that humane & orderly migration benefits migrants and societies. It has 116 Member States, with over 280 Offices worldwide.

Under Dr Grondin’s leadership, the organization promotes a comprehensive interpretation of migration health beyond infectious disease control towards inclusion of chronic conditions, mental health concerns, social ill-being of migrant, and the establishment of health policies and practices that would integrate all members within communities, regardless of citizenship and migration legal status. She has been the drive in establishing with WHO a partnership in action in areas of common priorities, including addressing the challenges on health and migration in emergency situations.

Dr Grondin has more than twenty years international experience in health care systems delivery, matching policies and management strategies to deliver sustainable and comprehensive health services to vulnerable including elderly, children and migrants. While living in Germany, Singapore and the United Kingdom, she studied the health care systems of the countries in South-East Asia, Central Eastern Europe and Europe, and met with government officials, health services providers and users of these services.

Over the last four years, she has been a regular speaker on international fora, promoting global policies for global management of migration health, including in crisis situations.
