Pakistan earthquake - September 2013
3 October 2013 - Another earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 hit Baluchistan on 28th September 2013 and caused more damage in the already affected areas of Awaran and Kitch. District Awaran was the origin of the earthquake and there has been further destruction in Tehsil Mashkey. The Baluchistan Provincial Disaster Management Authority reports that 185 000 people have been affected and 21 000 houses in Awaran and Kech are partially or fully collapsed. The earthquakes have caused 376 deaths and 594 people are injured. NDMA affirmed that the government is able to respond to the earthquake, and no further humanitarian assessments or relief items will be required.
Pakistan monsoon floods
29 August 2013 -- According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), nearly 1.3 million people are affected, 193 persons died and 31 355 people are living in 512 relief camps after the monsoon rains experienced in Punjab since early August. WHO has provided essential medicines support to 165 693 people through customized kits. Stagnant water in the flood affected areas is posing threat for increase in malaria, dengue and other water-borne diseases.
Pakistan / Iran earthquake 16 April 2013
16 April 2013 -- A magnitude 7.8 earthquake has struck South-East Iran. The epicentre was 83km (53 miles) east of city of Khash, near Pakistan-Iran border. The preliminary reports show main affected areas are border districts of Balochistan with minor damages in Sindh.
Displacement from Khyber Agency - 16 April 2013
16 April 2013 -- Since mid-March, about 48,000 people have been displaced from the Maidan area in the Tirah Valley in Khyber Agency, FATA, due to an escalation of hostilities between rival armed groups and the Government’s security operations against armed non-state actors. Temporary settlement of the IDPs is expected to follow patterns of previous displacements: between 10 and 15 per cent are expected to move to established camps such as Jalozai in Nowshera District, Togh Sarai in Hangu District and New Durrani in Kurram Agency, while the majority are expected to stay in host communities in the Peshawar Valley.
