Health at the Doha climate change conference

Place: Doha, Qatar
Date: 26 November – 7 December 2012

Health is a central component of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Climate change is a priority for WHO, formalized through World Health Assembly Resolution 61.19, and reflected in the proposals for WHO reform.

To coincide with the UN Climate Change Talks WHO is hosting a high level side event Building Sustainable Health Systems: Focus on Climate Resilience. The side event aims to promote a sustainable development approach to safeguard and improve health. This should include guaranteeing access to health services, and environmental determinants of health, such as air, water, food and energy; and ensuring that they are resilient to climate and other shocks. It should also help to support countries in choosing sustainable long-term paths, that enhance health in the short and long term, from reducing air pollution through sustainable energy choices, to increasing access to reliable and clean energy sources for health facilities in the poorest countries. The side event will take place 3 December 2012
