24 May 2008 -- During the Sixty-first World Health Assembly, Member States highlighted the importance of climate change for public health, urged action by countries, and made a series of requests to the WHO secretariat. This included a request to consult with Member States to develop a workplan for scaling up WHO’s technical support in this field. -

As a response to resolution WHA61.19 a workplan was prepared through a consultative process with Member States.
