SURVEILLANCE AND MONITORING BY WHO REGION, 2012

State of surveillance and monitoring by WHO region, 2012

The WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) requires Parties to regularly collect national data on the magnitude, patterns, determinants and consequences of tobacco use and exposure.

As at December 2012, a total of 99 WHO Member States had nationally representative and recent (2007 or later) data for both youth and adults, but only 54 of these countries conduct regular collection of data at intervals of five years or less.
