Estimated: 8.7 million (8.3–9.0 million) new TB cases.
Estimated: 1.4 million (1.3–1.6 million) people died from TB including 0.43 million (0.40–0.46 million) HIV-associated TB deaths.
Notified: 5.8 million TB cases with a new episode of TB.
Trends
TB incidence has been falling globally for several years and fell at a rate of 2.2% per year between 2010 and 2011.
TB death rate has fallen by 41% between 1990 and 2011.
The world and all of WHO’s six regions are on track to achieve the Millennium Development Goal target that TB incidence rates should be falling by 2015.
