Online resources for patients and public
Genomic interventions will have an important impact on the future of medicine. Studies indicate that while there is considerable public interest in genomics and biotechnology, there is still widespread lack of public awareness of the basic principles of genetics. In order to make informed judgements regarding particular genetic services or current research, as well as the ethical, legal and social implications of these advancements, the public must increase its awareness of genetics and have access to information about the potential impact of genomics on their own lives.
This page is intended to provide a basic introduction to genomics via links to various educational sites that not only discuss fundamental concepts but also introduce the current issues of debate. While we do not endorse the specific content of any of these sites, we hope that the knowledge gained will make readers better informed of the field and its potential.
