Patricia Baird was trained as a pediatrician, and then specialized in medical genetics, being Head of the Department of Medical Genetics at U.B.C. for over a decade. She has been a member of numerous national and international bodies, among them the National Advisory Board on Science and Technology chaired by the Prime Minister; the Medical Research Council of Canada (and its Standing Committee on Ethics in Experimentation); and International Ethics Committees. She headed the Canadian Royal Commission on New Reproductive Technologies, and has served as an Advisor to W.H.O. in recent years. Since the mid 80's she has been associated with the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, where she chaired the Advisory Committee for the Population Health and Human Development Programs. She has received three honorary degrees, the Order of British Columbia, and is an Officer of the Order of Canada. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and is "University Distinguished Professor" Emerita at the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Madhulika Kabra is Additional Professor in the Genetics subdivision of the Department of Pediatrics at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. She received her M.B.B.S. from SMS Medical College in Jaipur (1984) and her M.D. from the same institution in 1987. She has had special training in Clinical Genetics and Molecular Genetics at St. Mary's Hospital in Manchester, U.K. In addition, Dr. Kabra is an Associate Editor of the Indian Journal of Pediatrics.Working in the field of Clinical Genetics for the last ten years Dr Kabra's special interests are clinical dysmorphology and applied molecular genetics. She has personal experience of working on molecular genetics
