GARD in Kyrgyzstan, Central Asia

The meeting was initiated and organized by GARD Kyrgyzstan with support of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyz Republic and WHO, on 21 February 2011 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The Honourable Minister of Health inaugurated the meeting and expressed his commitment to strengthen prevention and control of major non-communicable diseases including chronic respiratory diseases with a focus on primary health care. All major healthcare stakeholders from Kyrgyzstan took part in the meeting and discussions. Representatives from the Ministries of Health from Kazakhstan and Tajikistan also participated in the meeting and expressed their interest to support GARD expansion in Central Asian region. GARD Chairman Professor Jean Bousquet addressed the participants and presented the information about GARD objectives and its major achievements.
WHO made presentations on the implementation of the Global NCD Action Plan and work related to primary health care in general and chronic respiratory diseases in particular following the decision of the GARD Executive Committee and Planning Group meeting in Barcelona in September 2010 to expand GARD activities at country and regional level.
