Integration of the Five Keys to Safer Food in Child Health Passports to educate mothers
Benin - October 2011
- The Five Keys to Safer Food message was simplified and used in the context of emergencies in 2010 to reduce the incidence of diarrhoeal disease following the flooding of October 2010.
- The simplified version was integrated in the training manual of community workers developed by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with UNICEF. National trainers of community workers and trainers from NGOs were trained and will have the potential to cascade the training to local target populations.
- The simplified version of the Five Keys to Safer Food was included in child health passports (350 000 child health passports should be distributed per year). The child health passports will be validated in October 2011.
- The original version of the Five Keys to Safer Food is included into the didactic document of the Ministry of Health which will serve as the basis for the development of pedagogical documents for adults, teenagers and children.
