Codex work on foods derived from biotechnology

The ad hoc Codex Intergovernmental Task Force on Foods Derived from Biotechnology was re-established by the 27th Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (2004). At the 31st session of the CAC (June/July 2008) the Commission noted that the Task Force had completed its work, one year ahead of schedule, and agreed to its dissolution.

The objectives of the Task Force were to develop standards, guidelines or recommendations, as appropriate, for foods derived from modern biotechnology or traits introduced into foods by modern biotechnology, on the basis of scientific evidence, risk analysis and having regard, where appropriate, to other legitimate factors relevant to the health of consumers and the promotion of fair practices in the food trade.
