Yellow fever is endemic in 45 countries in Africa and Latin America. Outbreaks can occur when yellow fever is carried by an infected mosquito or person into an area where there are unvaccinated people. WHO strongly recommends routine yellow fever vaccination of children and mass campaigns to increase vaccination coverage in countries at risk. To effectively prevent outbreaks, at least 60-80% of the population must be vaccinated.
