WHO has worked with the Government of Sudan to develop an emergency response vaccination strategy for the outbreak-affected areas of Darfur. Vaccination is the best way to prevent yellow fever. The vaccine is safe, affordable and provides immunity within 10 days. The first phase of the campaign, targeting approximately 2.2 million people, commenced on 20 November 2012.
