Helping stop the spread of Ebola in Uganda

WHO worked with the Ugandan Ministry of Health and partners to control an outbreak of Ebola haemorrhagic fever in Kibaale district in July-August. Ebola is one of the most virulent viruses known to humankind. The outbreak claimed 17 lives out of 24 cases reported. To help minimize spread of the disease, WHO provided personal protection suits and essential equipment, supported screening of patients, follow-up of contacts and surveillance, as well as social mobilization and education activities.
