Informal working group on a protocol to eliminate illicit trade in tobacco products

The informal working group on the draft protocol to eliminate illicit trade in tobacco products, established by the COP at its fourth session, held its first meeting from 4 to 8 July 2011 in Geneva. The participants agreed on proposed text for those articles in Part III (Supply Chain Control) of the draft protocol on which consensus had not been reached by the Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB) at its previous sessions.

The second meeting of the working group was held from 19 to 23 September 2011 in Geneva. Matters discussed during the second meeting included the method of financing of the protocol and the inclusion of provisions on extradition and mutual legal assistance. The working group approved a report on all of the matters discussed at the two meetings that was submitted to the INB at its final session, which was held in Geneva from 29 March to 4 April 2012.
