Expert meeting on South-South and triangular cooperation to promote implementation of the WHO FCTC

In accordance with the decision of the Conference of the Parties (COP) at its fourth session (decision FCTC/COP4(19)) a meeting of experts was organized by the Convention Secretariat in Geneva on 26-28 June 2012. During the meeting, experts discussed emerging challenges in the South in relation to implementation of the Convention as well as possibilities and opportunities to utilize the potential of South-South and triangular cooperation to meet such challenges. The participants also identified priority areas of action. A report, based on the discussion during the meeting, will become the basis for the report on South-South and triangular cooperation to the fifth session of the COP, to be held in November 2012.

In addition to the experts, the meeting was attended by the South-South Cooperation unit of the United Nations Development Programme.
