ePORTUGUESe Programme celebrates 10 years
Portuguese is the 6th most spoken language in the world. It is also the most spoken language in the Southern hemisphere and there are more than 300 million Portuguese speakers distributed to eight Member States and four continents.
However, Portuguese is not an UN official language and for a long time, health professionals from Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa have constantly requested WHO to provide them with reliable and up-to-date health information in their own language.
Ten years ago, in 2005, this was possible with the creation of the ePORTUGUESe WHO Programme.
Today, this programme celebrates its 10th anniversary having created a network of Institutions and health professionals in these eight countries that share their information and exchange their experiences through the Virtual Health Library, discussion group, collaborative space and the use of Social Media.
