Vitamin A supplementation for HIV-infected adults

Vitamin A is essential for good sight, immunity, growth and development, and red blood cell production.

In HIV-infected adults, low levels of vitamin A in the blood have been associated with rapid disease progression and death. Giving vitamin A supplements to HIV-infected adults may therefore be expected to delay disease progression, however studies to date have had mixed findings. Further research is needed to build an evidence base for vitamin A supplementation in HIV-infected adults.
