2nd Asia Pacific Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Congress hosted in Philippines

From 29 November -1 December 2011, the National Council on Disability Affairs of the Philippines hosted the 2nd Asia Pacific Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Congress in Manila. More than 630 participants from 65 countries took part in the Congress, supported by the Government of the Philippines, WHO, AUSAID, CBM and others. President Benigno Aquino III inaugurated the Congress, highlighting the importance of social justice for people with disabilities. Dr Soe Nyunt-U, WHO Representative, presented on WHO's work in the field of disability and rehabilitation, and, jointly with Ms Chiyo Kanda, Acting World Bank Country Manager, officially handed over the World report on disability to the President. The Congress was attended by many distinguished guests from government ministries; the UN community, including the UN Special Rapporteur for Disability, Mr Shuaib Chalklen; and members of other regional CBR networks. At the end of the Congress, participants passed the Manila CBR Resolution, which will be implemented by the CBR Asia Pacific Network and its supporters over the next four years.
