Workshop to build capacities in disability data hosted in Nadi, Fiji
From 12-15 November, a workshop was convened by the Pacific Island Forum Secretariat in partnership with the Pacific Disability Forum and WHO WPRO to build capacities in disability data.
Participants from 14 Pacific Island Countries attended, including representatives from national statistics offices and planning departments, national focal points for disability, and leaders of Disabled People’s Organizations.
The meeting was focused on building capacity through internationally standardized and comparable tools that will support better data collection across the region, including the Washington Group on Disability Statistics; the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health; and the Model Disability Survey.
The meeting resulted in a firm commitment from countries to collectively work together to improve disability data and statistics and identify mechanisms for better regional coordination among partners.
