Online consultation for a disability-inclusive Post-2015 Development Agenda opens

As part of the preparatory process for the United Nations High-level Meeting on Disability and Development, an online consultation open to everyone will be held from 8 - 28 March.

The United Nations High-level Meeting, under the theme "The way forward: a disability inclusive development agenda towards 2015 and beyond," will result in an action-oriented outcome document in support of the aims of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the realization of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). It will take place on 23 September 2013 at the level of Heads of State and Government.

This moderated online consultation will gather views on disability from all over the world in order to inform the United Nations High-level Meeting and ensure that the post-2015 development agenda is inclusive of people who experience disability.

The consultation aims to look more deeply at the particular challenges faced in different regions, and identify the specific measures and actions to promote a disability-inclusive society.

The moderators welcome inputs from a broad range of stakeholders. While national governments have the most significant role in defining the outcome document, other players also have important roles. People with disabilities are particularly well placed to inform and guide decisions, policies and programmes that impact on them. Inputs from organizations of people with disabilities and other civil society organizations are expected to strengthen the process and the final outcomes document.
