First consultations held to prepare High Level Meeting on Disability (HLMD)
On 10 and 14 September, consultations were held to prepare a one-day HLMD involving Heads of State and Government.
The HLMD was called for in UN General Assembly resolution 66/124, and is scheduled for 23 September 2013 under the theme: "The way forward: a disability inclusive development agenda towards 2015 and beyond". The HLMD will result in a concise, action-oriented Outcome Document in support of the aims of the CRPD and other internationally agreed development goals.
These two informal consultations were chaired by the two co-facilitators: H.E. Mr Libran Cabactulan, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the United Nations and H.E. Mr Fernando Arias, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Spain to the United Nations and focused on three questions: the format of the Outcome Document; content; and who should participate in the process leading up to and including the HLMD.
The inputs during the consultation will be used by the co-facilitators to outline a road map for preparations.
