Disabilities and rehabilitation

Arabic version of Community-based rehabilitation (CBR) guidelines launched in Jordan

The Arabic version of the CBR guidelines was jointly launched on 8 April in Amman, Jordan by WHO, the Higher Council for the Affairs of Persons with Disabilities, and the Ministry of Health of Jordan with support from several partners, including CBM, DIAKONIA, Handicap International, and the Norwegian Association for the Disabled. The launch was followed by an orientation workshop on 8-10 April, which was attended by over 100 participants representing governments, NGOs, disabled people's organizations and CBR field workers from ten countries in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region: Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Pakistan, Palestine, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. The workshop was a break-through for promotion of CBR and related efforts for better health and quality of life for persons with disabilities in the region. With the rich representation and experiences, the workshop also served as an opportunity to resume discussions on the establishment of an Arab CBR Network.
