Cholera in Zambia

Disease Outbreak Reported

As of 6 May 2003, 68 cases including 3 deaths (case-fatality rate, 4.4 %) of Cholera have been reported in Nchelenge district.

The outbreak started on 19 April 2003. The Health authorities have implemented measures to control the outbreak. Supplies, including oral rehydration salt have been sent to the affected area. The health authorities have begun to disperse all people who have settled in the fishing camps along Lake Mweru in order to limit the transmission of the disease.
