2001 - Cholera in Nigeria - Update

Disease Outbreak Reported

As of  26 November 2001, WHO has reported a total of 2 050 cases of cholera and 80 deaths in Kano State in Kano Metropolis.  WHO is working with the the State Ministry of Health to control the outbreak.  A cholera camp has been set up and mobilization teams have been formed to trace contacts, carry out disinfection of houses and other areas, and provide health education.  WHO has also supplied cholera kits.

One hundred and twenty cases of cholera have also been reported in Jigawa State. WHO is working with the Federal Ministry of Health and a team from Kano State to investigate this outbreak.
