2001 - Yellow fever in Liberia

Disease Outbreak Reported

WHO has reported 3 suspected cases of yellow fever in Maryland county, in the south-eastern part of the country.   One case with disease onset on 1 August has been confirmed (IgM positive) by the Institut Pasteur in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.  All three cases have  died. 

The Ministry of Health's Epidemic Management Committee is planning a vaccination campaign in the affected county, but additional vaccine stocks will be needed to implement the emergency immunization programme.
