2001 - Yellow fever in Côte d'Ivoire

Disease Outbreak Reported

The Ministry of Health has reported 4 cases including 3 deaths in Danané and Duekoué districts in the south-western part of the country. Yellow fever has been confirmed by IgM detection in a sample collected on 23 March 2001 from a 17 year-old woman who died 24 March 2001.  Testing was performed by the Instituts Pasteur, Abidjan and Paris. To date, no further cases have been reported.

The Ministry of Health is continuing its investigation of the outbreak and has begun an immunization campaign using existing vaccine stocks.   To ensure that the campaign is successfully carried out, it has requested additional vaccine from WHO and its partners.
