One UN pilot initiative

One UN pilot initiative in Mozambique

Dr Chan addresses the World Health Assembly
WHO/Peter Williams

The overall goal of the One UN Initiative in Mozambique is to ensure the delivery of concrete results in support of the national development objectives and priorities by a more coherent, better coordinated, funded and managed UN. This overall goal will guide all decisions taken by the United Nations Country Team to move this agenda forward. Dr Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organization, announced at the 60th World Health Assembly that the Organization is participating fully in the eight “One UN” pilot projects.

Delivering as One

The “Delivering as One” pilot initiative will test in eight countries how the UN family –with its many and diverse agencies– can deliver in a more coordinated way at country level. The objective is to ensure faster and more effective development operations and accelerate progress to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. In short, a UN development system that delivers more and better for the poorest and most disadvantaged.
