SNOMED CT to ICD-10 Cross Map Preview Release

The International Health Terminology Standards Development Organization (IHTSDO) and the World Health Organization are pleased to announce that a preview release of SNOMED CT to ICD-10 cross maps is now available. The preview may be downloaded by any interested party who is registered through the UK Technology Reference data Update Distribution (TRUD) service. Please follow the link below to register and download. Instructions on how to download files can be found at this page.

The Maps have been constructed using the July 2010 version of SNOMED CT, published by the IHTSDO as the source; and the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision (© World Health Organization 1994) ICD 10 second edition (2008), published and maintained by the World Health Organization as the target.

The released Maps are a first preview of the work in progress to map a priority list of approximately 9,500 SNOMED CT concepts and their descendants. The priority list of concepts from three source SNOMED CT domains has been assembled based upon frequency of SNOMED CT concept use in clinical data repositories in IHTSDO Member countries.

The maps have been produced using the technical processes, methodologies and Quality Assurance procedures developed by the IHTSDO Mapping Special Interest group as part of its collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO). It should be noted that this initial preview has not yet undergone the external review and content validation exercise as detailed in the ‘SNOMED CT to ICD-10 Map Quality Assurance Plan’; although the content of the files and the files themselves have undergone extensive checking and QA processes.

The Maps are in the first phase of development and we would welcome your feedback; if you wish to assist us in ensuring they meet your needs please provide feedback via email to Jane Millar at jmi@ihtsdo.org. Comments are welcome by 31 October 2011 in order that we can consider and incorporate as necessary in the formal release.
