WHO Global Blood Safety Network

The WHO Global Blood Safety Network meeting was held on 9-10 May 2013 in Florianopolis, Brazil following the Global Forum Blood Safety. The participants of the Network comprised the members of the WHO Expert Advisory Panel on Blood Transfusion Medicine, WHO Collaborating Centres (WCC) on Blood Transfusion, NGOs in official relations, key developmental and implementing partners for blood safety, WHO regional focal points for blood safety and WHO/BTS staff. The meeting discussed strategies to strengthen the work of WCC through the network by sharing of information on the activities of WCC and developing mechanisms of working together to enhance implementation of WHO strategies and activities. This meeting also provided opportunities for the development of synergistic approach in supporting global blood safety activities at global, regional and country level. The outcome of the meeting will guide the WHO work plans on blood safety for the next biennium of 2014-15. A total of around 100 participants participated in this meeting, which also participated in the forum.
