Scope and mission of the institution
Hygea is a research firm that specializes in research in health and social action. Hygea provides a particular focus on research designed to have a positive impact on the health system.
It has a functional infrastructure with all the logistics necessary to conduct training, consulting or research. With a multidisciplinary team of collaborators, Hygea is able to perform work in areas that are currently major issues on the health and development agenda.
Most external collaborators have accumulated extensive experience in research. Moreover, they have full control of the health system in Senegal. They know the structures, the men who run them and their cultures. In research, Hygea works closely with the Research Division of the Directorate of Studies, Research and Training (DERF) at the Department of Health and the University of Toronto (Department of Health Administration).
Its research activities are now listed under the National Programme of Health Research.

1-Quality of care risk management and obstetric techniques in developing countries: a
randomized study of maternal mortality in Senegal and Mali over 4 years (in collaboration with the University of Montréal)
2-Equity and mutuality in Senegal (with funding from IDRC)
3-Universal access to care: the fight against exclusion and inequalities and inequities in access to care
