INTRA II project description

What is INTRA II

INTRA II aimed to describe how:

  • health care delivery services work or do not work in providing integrated health and social services;
  • explored the need for and impediments to providing "integrated" care from the perspective of - PHC users, health care providers, and policy makers - within the immediate community environment and
  • examined alternatives ways to overcome the impediments to integrate care within the context of the national health care systems.

Through the implementation of 84 focus groups in six countries, INTRA II study results revealed that without a clear national strategy defining coordination and cooperation from all pertinent sectors including public, civil, private, social and welfare, providing integrated health and social care for older persons would be difficult to attain.
